some History from a Collector
Binh Xuyen were a sect (as were the Cao Dai and Hoa Hao. Their history is rather complicated, but to make it short, they were the ones who ruled Prostitution and Gambling in Saigon and Cholon. They started with piracy then fought with and against the French, with and against the Communists. Diem tried to get rid of them in 1955 as they were becoming too powerful and threatening his power. This resulted in a fierce fight inside Saigon.
This is the second design, the first on is only local made. This badge was introduced in 1949 or 1950.

 Regional & Popular Forces

 pre-1961 Self Defense Force

Later know as the Popular Forces(PF), the boys at the bottom of the Totem Pole for everything.
Many of them never had boots/hats/etc. and were left holding the "bag" when the main-force ARVN/VNMC headed south.

I have owned this Gold-color Bullion badge for 18-20 years....always been a mystery badge as it does not have a Silver-color STAR and TANK .

UI#336 - possibly an ARVN General's Tanker Beret Badge, Bullion on Velvet, made in Vietnam, colors are wrong for the normal General's badge, possibly a maker's error or an early badge, any ideas?
If you can ID it or give some information, email.

Reverse cover was tacked-on(hard to see the black threads) and also glued(glue has broken down over the years)

back thread work exposed - looks normal RVN era workmanship - black threads burn like cotton
