                        |   6019A, L-2B AC-DELCO Promotional VEST
NON-ISSUE- made circa 1984 by AVIREX
General Motors Promotional Vest patterned after the rare L-2B Flyer's Vest ( Only Issue L-2B Vest I have seen had this contract number: DSA100-70-C-2115 )
“THE RIGHT STUFF”(Trade Mark) Movie Vest was made by AVIREX "FOR AC-DELCO" ( see the picfile of the Label below )
General Chuck Yeager was doing advertisements for DELCO Batteries in the 1980s so it tied-in with the: Bell X-1 Airplane, the Movie, and DELCO Batteries.

6019A - Medium ( chest = 47",  back from the seam to bottom of waist knit  = 24.5" ), glove snaps made by the Rau Company of Providence, RI, UnUsed......inquire
 ( I acquired the Vest in 1989-90 +/- )
( AVIREX's Letter of Authenticity  stored with the vest and goes to the buyer. )

In 1994 I asked AVIREX if they had made the Vest. Jacky Clyman ( Executive Vice President ) typed and signed a letter to me that stated, in effect: Yes, they had made the Vest for an AC-DELCO promotion circa 1984. It was manufactured by AVIREX ( the parent company of "The Cockpit" retail chain ).
The Vest was not made to promote the motion picture "The Right Stuff" but used the movie title on the label as it was one of AVIREX's trademarks.   The Vest was sold at a reduced price in return for sending in proof of purchase for AC-DELCO parts.
She estimated about 1,000 (maximum) vests were manufactured. - NON-ISSUE-

Property, has a cloth laundry tag sewn in neck, suit was manufactured in a “Cheap-Charlie” “screw-the-Taxpayer” atmosphere = many seams were not tucked-under enough and have started to pull-out and fray, does not affect the suit’s wearability but looks sloppy (this is common when the owners were greedy and the Government Inspectors were probably being paid-off), Below Average: Wear, stains, snags, and etc., only thing that does not work is the right-side waist adjustment snaps (I see no damage but the female glove snap will not function correctly?), Excellent Color, Used....inquire |
