Operations
Airlifted and airdropped troops and cargo to support operations and exercises worldwide, 1953-1965, supporting deployments during the following crises: Lebanon (Jul 1958), Taiwan (Aug 1958), Berlin (Sep 1961), Cuba (Oct-Nov 1962), the Gulf of Tonkin (Aug-Dec 1964), Southeast Asia (Feb and Apr-Nov 1965), and the Dominican Republic (Apr-Sep 1965).
Moved to the Far East in Nov 1965, assuming responsibility for operating a C-130 combat airlift support unit at Tan Son Nhut AB, South Vietnam and a detachment at Clark AB, Philippines, through Nov 1968.
In Dec 1965, began furnishing aircraft and crews to fly missions in Southeast Asia under operational control of the 315th Air Division (to Oct 1966) and 834th Air Division (Oct 1966-Oct 1971). Between Sep-Dec 1968 and Feb 1970-Dec 1971, the wing also flew aeromedical evacuation missions. The wing ceased aircraft operations in Southeast Asia on 25 Oct 1971.
In Jun 1972, it began participating in operations and exercises worldwide for Tactical Air Command (1972-1974), the Military Airlift Command (1974-1992), and Air Mobility Command (1992-1993). Until Oct 1993, the wing's tactical components deployed frequently to Europe, the Pacific, and the Canal Zone to provide air transportation as needed. From Apr 1997, provided worldwide airlift, delivering combat, humanitarian, and other supplies.

Project Mule Train History
By 1961 only one AF unit was still flying the C-123B, the 464th Troop Carrier Wing (Assault) at Pope AFB, NC;
even the 464th was scheduled to transition into C-130s, but events in Vietnam gave the C-123 a new lease on life.
During the summer of 1961 a panel of counterinsurgency experts met in Saigon to determine how best to assist the South Vietnamese goverment in their effort to defeat the Viet Cong insurregency. A lack of adequate airlift was placed at the top of a list of South Vietnamese deficiencies compiled by the panel headed by British expert Robert Thompson. Though the United States Army wanted to assist the Vietnamese with helicopters and it's own CV-2 "Caribou" transport, Air Force Chief of Staff Curtis Lemay insisted that the C-123 was the ideal candidate for operations in Vietnam. In early December, 1961, the Pope wing was alerted to dispatch a squadron to Clark Field, Philippines for a TDY of 120 days. Operation MULE TRAIN departed Pope two days later, and arrived at Clark by late December. After two weeks at Clark, the C-123s relocated to Tan Son Nhut.
MULE TRAIN was proceeded by a USAF Advisory Mission known as FARM GATE, which included a handful of C-47s for airlift, among other duties. But FARM GATE had come to Vietnam in an Advisory role. MULE TRAIN C-123s were there as conventional airlifters whose task was to assist the RVN Government Forces by providing airlift.
Another C-123 mission Project Ranch Hand (low-altitude spray missions) arrived in South Vietnam at about the same time.

Once the MULE TRAIN C-123Bs began operations in Vietnam, they set the tone for airlift operations for the next four years, and to some extent for the rest of the war. The C-123s soon established an airlift route structure within the country that used a dozen existing hard-surfaced airports. Every C-123 mission in Vietnam originated from or landed at one of those 12 bases.
One use of the C-123s involved airlifting South Vietnamese combat units around the country making
the C-123 Provider a "force multiplier" as it provided mobility to the RVN Forces.
At the same time, the Provider became invaluable within the transportation infrastructure.
After the MULE TRAIN force proved the value of the C-123 in Vietnam a second Pope Squadron was deployed.
MULE TRAIN operated out of Tan Son Nhut; SAWBUCK went to Da Nang to run airlift missions in the north.
A C-123 detachment operated out of Bangkok until the arrival of a Company of Army CV-2 Caribous at Korat.
A primary C-123 mission throughout the first years of the Vietnam War was the support of US Army Special Forces. A detachment of C-123s and C-47s was set up at Nha Trang for the exclusive use of Special Forces. While the C-123s usually landed at the camps; C-47s air dropped their cargo to the more remote camps. When necessary the C-123s air dropped as well.
In late 1963 the TAC rotational squadrons were gradually replaced by permanently assigned C-123 crews who had been drawn from the Air Force at large and put through a training course at Pope. One Pope Squadron transferred as a unit to become the 311th Air Commando Squadron at Da Nang. The PCS'd C-123s were assigned to the 315th Troop Carrier Group but the squadrons bore the designation of the Air Commandos, a new USAF special air warfare organization that was under development at Hurlburt Field, Florida. But while the Air Commando Units at Hurlburt were given special training the C-123 crews of the: 309th, 310th, and 311th Air Commando Squadrons remained conventional airlifters like their predecessors from Pope. The three squadrons were joined in late 1964 by the 19th ACS, which flew out of Tan Son Nhut. A fifth C-123 unit was part of the 606th ACS at Nakonphanom AB, Thailand, a unit that flew an assortment of airplanes, including C-123s whose primary mission was dropping flares for strike missions in Laos.
Flare missions were a responsibility of C-123 squadrons in the RVN as they gradually relieved the C-47s. Crews who flew airlift missions by day flew flare missions at night. Night missions saw the Providers in the air from the Mekong Delta to the DMZ.

Operation Homecoming - partial History
In February 1973, POWs held by NVN were to be released
MAC was assigned the mission of returning the POWS to CONUS
C-130E aircrews, from the 374th TAW, transported members of the negotiating team into Gia Lam airport
On the day of release, 2 x C-130Es flew the release team into the Hanoi Airport. Also onboard the aircraft was a
Combat Controller Team who setup homing beacons for the incoming MAC C-141 flights evacuating the POWs

Operations
In August 1966, replaced the 6315th Operations Group at Naha AB, Okinawa, and assumed a mission heavily involved in airlift to Southeast Asia, as well as intra–theater airlift for elements of the Pacific Command. In addition, the wing supported Army Special Forces training, participated in tactical exercises, and flew search and rescue and humanitarian missions as needed. The wing phased down for inactivation in early 1971, and from 27 Apr to 31 May had no aircraft. On 31 May, the wing replaced the 314th Tactical Airlift Wing in Taiwan. Saved from inactivation and revived with new resources, the 374th remained heavily committed in support of operations in Southeast Asia, and also continued routine airlift in other areas. One of the wing’s humanitarian missions—flood relief in the Philippines—earned it a Philippine Republic Presidential Unit Citation in 1972.
The wing provided support in March 1973 for Operation HOMECOMING, the repatriation of American prisoners from Hanoi, North Vietnam. The wing maintained a forward operating location in Thailand until mid-1976, and was quite active in that area.
It took part in Operation BABY LIFT (evacuation of Vietnam orphans) and Operation NEW LIFE (evacuation of Vietnamese refugees) in Apr 1975. During the recovery of the SS Mayaguez from the Cambodians in May 1975,
a wing aircraft dropped a 15,000-lb bomb on Koh Tang Island to create a helicopter landing area.
The wing became part of the Military Airlift Command on 31 Mar 1975, at which time it gained an aeromedical airlift mission in the Far East. In Oct 1978, gained a tactical airlift group to control the wing’s units in Japan and South Korea. Controlled aerial port facilities in South Korea until Nov 1983, and then in the Phillippines and Japan. Began supporting US Navy elements in the Indian Ocean area in 1980. Deployed C–130s, associated aircrews and support personnel for operations in Southwest Asia, 30 Dec 1990–6 Jul 1991. Provided airlift and aeromedical airlift for the evacuation of Clark AB, Philippines, after the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo, 8 Jun–1 Jul 1991. Returned to control of Pacific Air Forces in Apr 1992.

I think I have the OB this far: 12th USAAF (12th Tactical Army Air Force), IX TC CMD, 62nd TC Group
notice the Maltese Crosses:
Sicily (Operation Husky in July 1943), Southern France (Operation Dragoon in August 1944)
Balkans (Yugoslavia or Greece) possibly an OSS "BATS" Team landing(?)
The 62nd Troop Carrier Group did all 3 operations with: 4th TCS, 7th TCS, 8th TCS, and 51st TCS
