partial History
Stationed on Okinawa the 4th Pursuit Squadron was Redesignated 4th Fighter Squadron (All Weather) in 1947
There the squadron adopted the Fuujin, the Okinawan God of Wind, as its emblem after half of its combat aircraft were destroyed by a freak windstorm.
The Fuujins remained on Okinawa flying the F-82 Twin Mustang from 1950 to 1952
Equipped with F-94 Starfires from 1951 to 1954 providing Air Defense of the Ryukyu Islands during the Korean War.
On Okinawa, the 4th had two name changes: 4th Fighter All-Weather Squadron & 4th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron.

The 4th FIS relocated to Misawa Air Base, Japan where the squadron flew F-86 Sabres and F-102 Delta Daggers until 1965. During that period, the unit participated in Air Defense of Japan; trained pilots of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces, the Republic of Korea and the Royal Thai Air Force; and flew combat missions over Korea and Vietnam.

In June 1965, the 4th FIS moved to Eglin Air Force Base, FL and was renamed the 4th TFS becoming the fourth Air Force fighter squadron trained in the F-4 Phantom IIs. During July 1967 the unit deployed to Udom RTAFB, Thailand and Redesignated 435th TFS

The 4th began reconstitution at Eglin Air Force Base, FL. In April 1969, the Fightin' Fuujins deployed to Da Nang Air Base, Republic of Vietnam and flew escort missions as part of the 366th Tactical Fighter Wing. Transferring to Udorn RTAFB, in mid-1972, squadron aircrews flew air superiority missions over Vietnam. The squadron attained the U.S. Air Force's last SEA aerial victory, downing a MiG-21, Jan. 8, 1973. The 4th TFS downed four enemy aircraft in combat over Vietnam.
For the next two years, the Fuujins remained at Udorn RTAFB, flying cover for evacuations of Phnom Pehn & Saigon.
The squadron performed strike missions in support of a recovery operation for the U.S.S. Mayaguez, a merchant freighter captured by Cambodian Khmer Rouge guerillas in May 1975.

In December 1975 the 4th TFS moved to Hill AFB, Utah forming the initial cadre for the relocation of the 388th TFW flying the F-4D Phantom IIs

9th BS Incised "Leather" Insignia

History on the "Cloud Nine" patch:
2LT Bob Eubanks (now a LTC) created the image as Nose Art for a B-52 (Tail number 0009) that the 9th BS, 7th BW flew at Carswell AFB,
circa 1988-1992 while serving as a B-52 Navigator.
Because of the tail number "0009", we wanted to create it as a symbol of the squadron.
The background (the grey sky, search lights forming the roman numeral Nine (IX), and the cityscape) was taken from a much older version of the patch. I brought it back with the: girl. bomber jacket, clouds and "CLOUD NINE".
Our Official squadron patch, while I was assigned to the 9th BS, looked like the "England Swings" without the words.
( I have modified the above )

"CLOUD NINE", on VELCRO, UnUsed.....inquire

"ENGLAND SWINGS", on VELCRO, UnUsed....inquire

Very-Thick material sewn-on OG VELCRO, came from an Air Force Pilot's Grouping, Italian or English made patches(?) - extremely well made
( may not be Leather, but it is a good-looking substitute )

"It was during the squadron’s stay in Hawaii that the event signified by the squadron patch took place.
On Dec. 27, 1935, the Mauna Loa volcano on the island of Hawaii erupted, threatening the city of Hilo.
Six Keystones of the 23rd used precision bombing tactics to drop twenty 600-pound bombs in the path of the volcano’s lava flow, thus saving the city of Hilo by diverting the lava away from the city."

additional information when they were a Fighter-Interceptor Squadron
The 27th FIS was originally transferred to ADC from SAC with F-80s in December 1948. However, the squadron went back under SAC four months later in May 1949. In April 1950 the 27th FIS was again transferred to ADC, still at March AFB, but with new F-86A aircraft. In July 1950 the squadron moved to George AFB for a brief one month when it again moved in August 1950 across the county to Griffiss AFB. In August 1952 the squadron began transitioning into F-89Cs; however, the change was never completed. It continued flying F-86As until the spring of 1954 when a transition into F-94Cs was completed. In the fall of 1957 the unit transitioned into F-102As. Two years later in the fall of 1959 the squadron moved to Loring AFB and began flying F-106As. On I1July 1971 the 27th FIS designation was transferred to TAC as the 27th TFS.

24.  know the ID for this WWII Glider patch?

Motto = "FIRST TO LAND"

Incised leather patches made in Italy

I think I have the OB this far: 12th USAAF (12th Tactical Army Air Force), IX TC CMD, 62nd TC Group

(notice the Maltese Crosses: Sicily (Operation Husky in July 1943), Southern France (Operation Dragoon in August 1944),
and the Balkan(Yugoslavia or Greece); possibly an OSS "BATS" Team landing(?))
(The 62nd Troop Carrier Group did all 3 operations with: 4th TCS, 7th TCS, 8th TCS, and 51st TCS)
( also on Identify and Troop Carrier Pages )

( any info, send e-mail to:  Jack@LJMilitaria.com  )

25.  Trans Choge Airlines?

( Choge as in: "Cut a Choge"(Japanese for "leave in a hurry" )

( another meaning from a late-1970s era GI: from the Korean phrase "kara choge" = go there.
GIs corrupted the phrase and started using it to describe Koreans who manned the
Supply Trains for the U.S. Military.  Which may indicate this was a "milk run" for the C-47;
I believe the term in the RVN was "trash" hauler? )

"Kunsan (VERY) LTD"  =  I assume it means" Kunsan Very Limited"(?), for an enlisted AirCrewman,
embroidered on an old GI Wool Blanket, removed from a uniform,

you can see a picture of a period C-47 that did the puddle-jumper run to Kunsan:

150.  USAF DET 360, Keflavik, Iceland, possible IDS: a DET of the OSI District 3 or 667th AC & W SQ?

partial History
Det 360 was a detachment of:
The 1035th USAF Field Activities Group (Group organized on July 7, 1959)
Redesignated 1035th Technical Operations Group June 26, 1972.
Redesignated "Air Force Technical Applications Center" or AFTAC in 1980.
Mission/Operations
Among the things that AFTAC does is to operate Filter Units that were and are used to sample air for radioactivity.
Sample is collected and sent to a central lab for analysis to determine what kind and amount of radioactive material.
This was particularly important in the era of nuclear detonation testing in the atmosphere.
AFTAC also operates a global network of seismographs for the same purpose.
Det 360 appears to have been a small lab unit that operated at Keflavik with a Det 310 being a Ground Filter Unit located at site H-2 at least in the 1960's after the Navy had taken over the former 667th AC& W SQ RADAR site for communications operation in 1961. The site and all operation was abandoned in 1970. Unknown when Det 360 ceased operations at Keflavik.
